How Corporate Partnerships Can Help Fight Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is a growing issue across the Heartland, affecting one in eight individuals, including one in five children. To address this need, organizations like Food Bank for the Heartland rely on strong corporate partnerships to provide critical food access to 93 counties across Nebraska and western Iowa. Recently, we spoke with Stephanie from the Food Bank on the Skillwork Forum to discuss how businesses can make a meaningful impact through collaboration.

The Importance of Corporate Support

Corporate partnerships amplify the Food Bank’s efforts by providing both financial support and hands-on volunteerism. Many businesses, particularly in food manufacturing, are uniquely positioned to help, offering food donations, funding, and volunteer hours. Stephanie highlighted that partnerships help them “rescue” food that might otherwise go to waste, repackaging it into family-sized servings to provide consistent, nutritious meals.

Additionally, companies like Woodhouse Auto Family have made significant contributions through donation matching, directly impacting programs like the Backpack Program, which delivers food to children in need.

Engaging Employees and Making an Impact

Companies of all sizes have found creative ways to support Food Bank for the Heartland’s mission. From hosting food drives and virtual fundraisers to organizing interactive canned goods events, businesses are getting their employees involved and making a tangible difference.

The Food Bank’s “Protein Repack Room” also offers hands-on volunteer opportunities where employees can help break down bulk donations into family-friendly portions, further connecting with the community they support.

Building a Culture of Giving Back

Corporate partnerships go beyond donations; they build community resilience and foster a culture of giving. When companies support causes like the Food Bank, they strengthen their brand reputation and inspire their employees, boosting morale and engagement.

If you’re a business leader interested in making a difference, consider partnering with organizations like Food Bank for the Heartland. Together, we can help ensure that families have access to nutritious food year-round.
